The Georgia War Veterans Home is a health care complex comprised of three skilled nursing home facilities and one domiciliary care facility dedicated to serving military veterans of the State of Georgia.  The Richard B. Russell Bldg (skilled) is seen on the right top of the picture and can accomodate 120 residents.  The Joe T. Wood Bldg (skilled) is located on the left top of the picture and has 150 beds.  The Carl Vinson Bldg (skilled) is the smaller 3 story facility with 102 beds and is in the center of the picture behind the Pete Wheeler Bldg.  The Pete Wheeler Bldg (domiciliary) is home to 120 veterans and dominates the center of the picture frame.  The Pete Wheeler Bldg is also home for ambulatory veterans with Alzheimer's Disease. Lastly, you can see our well-equipped Birdsong Recreation Center (1 story white bldg) immediately in front of the Richard B. Russell Bldg on the right side of this picture.  The GWVH was originally established in a single building, the Cabaniss, in June 1955 by the Georgia General Assembly.  The Cabaniss Bldg was later renovated and rededicated as the Pete Wheeler Building on May 21, 1977.

The GWVH is a Georgia Department of Veterans Service facility that is operated by United Veterans Service of Georgia, Inc. a wholly-owned subsidiary of UHS-Pruitt Corporation in Toccoa, Georgia. The GWVH is licensed by the Georgia Office of Regulatory Services and certified annually by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.                               CLICK HERE for information and forms regarding admission to the GWVH!

We provide comprehensive around the clock skilled nursing care. Other services include physician, rehabilitative nursing, dietary, social services, occupational, physical, respiratory, and speech therapies, creative arts, therapeutic recreation, and leisure activities.
